Grief Encounters
Grief Encounter Project: helping bereaved children in the UK

Grief Encounter addresses the sensitive issues of coping, interacting and nurturing children and young people through bereavement. The difficult subject of bereavement is tackled head on by offering practical methods and advice for children and young people to learn how to cope, adjust and continue in their young lives.
  • Our helpline offers information, signposting and advice.
  • Our counselling may be via children’s workshops, 1/1 counselling or offered as support to the family as a whole.
  • Our website offers advice and connects the bereaved
  • Our specialist resources support in a fun way.
  • Fun and Remembrance days bring our families together.
  • Our consultancy work helps other services to develop.
  • Our training and outreach work informs and empowers professionals.
In August 2002, Soham became a name synonymous with an unfolding tragedy that captured the intimate attention of the nation. For two families, losing their precious daughters under such horrendous circumstances meant a life changing event would have to be embraced in the most public of arenas. The grieving process excluded no one, least of all a young boy who had lost his sister.

My son Oliver was just 12 years old when his sister Holly was murdered. The advice I received from the Grief Encounter Project enabled me to understand that we could learn to grieve for Holly in a way that paved the way for a family future together. Every single day, many families will experience a similar reality.

Pain doesn’t go away by being ignored
